The cold wave of January 1985 killed the aerial part of many olive trees (Olea europaea) in the district of Bages; all the olive trees were more or less damaged. The photos taken a few years later in La Guía (Manresa) (photo 1), and in 2026, 41 years later (photo 2), show the olive trees sprouting again. The thick old trunks stand as evidence of how extraordinary this cold wave was. Since then, Central Catalonia has not experienced any other comparable cold wave.
