Gypsum in Malrubí

The cliff near El Berenguer (Avinyó), close to Malrubí stream, displays the transition between the rocks of marine origin -located below, in bluish grey colour- and those of continental origin -located on top, in red colour- with the whitish gypsum layers in between that come from the evaporation of the water of the ancient Eocene sea (photo 1).

The 2nd and 3rd images illustrate details of the different forms of gypsum; the 2nd shows massive gypsum, and the 3rd shows gypsum mineral in laminar recrystallization.
