Thermal inversion in plain of Bages

The plain of Bages and the valley of river Llobregat covered by fog as seen from L’Obac range (photos 1st, 2nd and 3rd) and from near Santa Cecilia in Montserrat (4th).

The plain of Bages is a surrounded by mountains basin. Sant Jeroni (1236 m) in Montserrat is the highest peak. Therefore, Bages is a protected from the wind area. In autumn and winter time, when high atmosphere pression condition is common, the fog lays on the basin. Fog often goes together with thermal inversion, so basins are colder than highlands. These phenomena are more intense in the plain of Vic or in the district of Segrià -where fog may remain for days or weeks- than in plain of Bages -where most of the times fog clears up at midday.
