The Pujol de La Mata (= hill of La Mata) is a summit made of conglomerate, conical, acute, and difficult to climb, very different from the elongated and rounded shapes of most hills in the same area of Sant Llorenç del Munt and Serra de l’Obac natural park such as Montcau or the hill of Tres Creus or La Pola. As there are no inhabited places closer, the hill of La Mata picks its name from the house of La Mata that is located 2 km away in an impossible straight line through the entangled relief of ridges and hollows.
The Pujol de La Mata is placed midway between the village of Mura at the bottom of the valley and the house of La Mata on the main ridge of Serra de l’Obac, on the right slope of Fontfreda stream and isolated by their tributary streams of La Roureda on the north and Roure del Parrac on the south. The easiest access is not through the valleys, but through the poorly defined ridge that, passing through the plain with large oaks known by the toponym of Sesta Feréstega, links it to the east to the elevated area of La Mata and Coll d’Estenalles.
The Pujol de La Mata is easy to recognize by its conical shape and isolated position, therefore it becomes a landmark in the intricate landscape of the area of Fontfreda.
