Gypsum in laminar crystals into a sandstone in Santa Maria d’Oló. The deposit of this gypsum comes from Eocene Superior. Despite the stratum of gypsy sandtone is older than the rocks nearby, nowadays it is upright -as displayed by the direction of the exfoliation planes of the mineral and the breaking of the sandstone- in the center of anticline-fault of Santa Maria d’Oló. The plasticity of gypsum and even more that of the salt beneath contributed and lubricated the rise of the anticline structure. In the sequence, this gypsy sandstone stratum lays just above the salt of geological formation Cardona.
