Amongst the species of the genus Russula, R.decipiens is a common one in oak forests, preferably in decarbonated soils. In the district of Bages, mushrooms of genus Russula as a whole are named cuagres in Catalan, that translates to bitter stipe, though the names cualbres and llores are applied to them as well in other Catalan regions. The identification of the species of Russula is difficult.
R.decipiens displays a depressed in the center, large cap of red color on top of a yellow shade that is seen mainly in the center. The grills are also yellow, while the stipe is white and rough. R.torulosa is not edible because of its spicy taste.
