In the municipality of Santa Maria d’Oló there is a really powerful tectonic structure about 12 km long extending from the south of the village to Sant Feliuet de Terrassola. The structure orientates from southwest to northeast in parallel to the other long tectonic structures of fault of El Guix (Sallent) and anticlines of Súria and Pinós that cross the northern half of the Bages region. The structure of Oló is incomplete because the Oló stream that flows along its axis has washed out and emptied it, changing into a valley what tectonically would has been a mountain. The Oló structure is known by the alternative names of anticline or bray; however, in its central section in south of the town it is in fact a large fault that becomes a beautiful diapiric hole in nearby Borina range.
The photo displays the leaning layers of the geological formation Artés in the south side of the fault of Santa Maria d’Oló. The displayed south block sliped over the north block. Following the layers, small foldings are seen in the left of the picture.
Near to the stream and to the village, there is a salty water spring which has to be related to the raised near to the surface salt of the geological formation Cardona close to the fault plane.
