Blackcap

Sylvia atricapilla

The blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) is a light colored bird that lives in forests, bushes and parks. The male, as seen in pictures 1st, 2nd and 3rd, really displays a black hat. However, the female, as seen in the pictures 4th, 5th and 6th, just has a deeper brown on the cap.

In winter time, the population of blackcap in the district of Bages increases with individuals coming from colder areas.

It eats fruits from bushes as the Chinese privet or the ivy, as well as insects. The gallery below displays the sequence of a male blackcap feeding on the fruits of the holly in winter.
